Puzzle parking systems for basements, podiums and societies

Puzzle parking arranges cars on pallets in a grid. Pallets slide sideways and lift up or down using one free slot per level, so any car can be brought to the ground. It is the most widely used mechanical system for Indian housing societies, basements and podium parking.

When to choose puzzle parking, and when not to

Choose it when…

  • You have a wide, regular stilt, podium or basement bay
  • You need 10–100 cars with a mix of users and cars
  • You want lower cost than a tower, with auto operation (RFID / touch panel)

Think twice when…

  • The plot is narrow or irregular with many columns
  • You need the smallest possible land footprint (consider rotary or tower)
  • Budget only allows two cars per bay (consider stack)
Pros and limits

An honest look at puzzle parking

Strengths

  • Handles tens of cars in a podium or basement
  • Each car is independently retrievable
  • Can go several levels above and below ground
  • Touch panel or RFID operation

Limitations

  • Needs a wide, regular grid of bays
  • One free slot per level reduces net capacity
  • Higher cost than stack parking
  • Waiting time grows when many users arrive together

FAQ

Puzzle parking: common questions

How many cars does a puzzle parking system hold?

Capacity is bays × levels, minus one free slot for every level except the top. For example, 3 bays × 3 levels holds 7 cars. Larger grids hold dozens.

Is puzzle parking suitable for a society basement?

Yes, it is the most common choice. We check bay width, column grid, pit depth, water table and fire layout, and design the system around them.

What happens during a power cut?

Puzzle systems are planned with a generator or UPS connection and a manual emergency release so cars stay secure and can be retrieved.
